DISCOS overcharge consumers, Rs15bn collected
Though NEPRA had approved a surprising cut of Rs1.67 per unit in base tariff of power distributing companies (Discos) more than three months ago, the Federal Ministry of Water and Power did not issue notification to this effect, as a result of which discos, during this period, collected additional amount of around Rs15billion from the consumers.
Energy crisis: 'government should promote use of biogas'
The government should promote use of biogas to deal with the serious energy crisis engulfing the country since 2005-06, as current gas production of 4.2 Billion Cubic Feet per Day (BCFD) and total power production of 14,000 megawatts are insufficient to meet the souring energy needs of the country, officials said.
Changes in national power policy suggested
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) suggested changes in National Power Policy 2013, terming it contrary to the national interests. NAB facing problems in dues recovery drive
In its drive to recover outstanding electricity dues, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is facing over 600 fresh litigations due to fictitious billing by power distribution companies (Discos), Dawn learnt on Thursday. During investigations against alleged defaulters, the NAB came to know that more than 80 per cent bills were bogus or fictitious.
Planning Commission opposes Thar coal power project
Opposing the Thar coal power project, the Planning Commission has said that generating 100 megawatts of electricity from coal is unrealistic. According to the Planning Commission report, the project is not implementable for the generation of electricity because heat range of gas produced by this project is 150 BTU which is not sufficient for power generation.
